Professional Experience
During the last 32 years Mr. Lowry has co-owned two chemical
manufacturing companies and a publishing company, been technical
director for the world's largest retailer of pool and spa supplies,
been technology officer for an ozone manufacturer and been
consultant to numerous corporations from DuPont, Olin, Albemarle
and FMC to small one-man operations.
He has written seven pool and spa water chemistry books, published
more than 120 technical articles, written 29 “white” papers,
written a monthly column for a major trade publication, given
more than 500 water chemistry seminars and has certified more
than 1500 students to be CPOs. In addition, he has formulated,
invented, developed and introduced more than 109 new chemical
products into the pool and spa industry. He is one of the leading
chemical experts in the pool industry.

Experience
1991 to 1995
Leslie’s Swimming Pool Supplies
Chatsworth, CADirector of Technical Services. Formulated 12
new chemical products which increased chemical sales by 78% in the first
year; found better sources for purchasing raw chemicals which lowered
costs; reformulated six existing products, provided efficacy testing
of proposed vendor and competitor chemicals; recommended which
products should be sold by retail operations; established a formal
water chemistry and product knowledge training program for all
retail store staff; provided telephone support to all 400 company-owned
retail stores on water problems, product chemistry questions and
vendor-related issues; assisted in establishing a Plan-A-Gram system
for retail store display; produced Material Safety Data Sheets
(MSDS) for 29 chemical products; reviewed container labels of 67
products for chemical and technical correctness; established a
Quality Assurance Program for incoming chemicals; wrote 29 Technical
Bulletins (white papers) on various water chemistry subjects; produced
and wrote a three-and-a-half hour training video on water chemistry;
wrote a 150-page consumer book titled “Leslie’s Swimming
Pool Maintenance Manual;” manager of the Regulatory Affairs
Department which was responsible for Federal EPA and 28 state registrations
of all pesticides; and supervisor for all safety programs.
1991
DEL Industries
San Luis Obispo, CAVice President - Technology. Researched better
methods to produce more ozone from existing generators, researched novel
methods of ozone production for possible inclusion in the product
line; developed better analytical methods for determining ozone
output of all ozone generators; reverse-engineered all competitor’s
ozone generators as well as all other alternative sanitizers; rewrote
all technical and consumer literature to include using a halogen
and conform with current NSPI and accepted water chemistry standards;
was a known, recognized authority when dealing with Health Departments,
schools, universities and other municipal or governmental regulators.
1986 to 1991
Service Industry News
Chino, CA President: Founder and co-owner of a twice-monthly pool
industry trade publication aimed at service technicians. Chief
financial officer; sales manager, wrote 72 chemical technical articles;
wrote three books that have become standards in the industry - Service
Industry News Guide to Chlorine, Service Industry News Guide to
pH, Alkalinity, Water Testing and Water Balance, and Service Industry
News Guide to Alternative Sanitizers. Edited, rewrote and
typeset the National Swimming Pool Foundation Certified Pool
Operator’s (CPO) Course Manual; purchased the rights
to and rewrote the book Everything You Always Wanted To Know
About Pool Care ... But Didn’t Know Where To Ask, took
the newspaper from an original circulation of 2500 to more than
15,000 service techs nationwide; increased average issue page count
from 20 pages to 32 pages; increased advertising to editorial ratio
from 18% to 52%; increased brand loyalty for advertisers at the
service tech level; provided a vehicle for manufacturers to reach
service techs; learned a great deal about writing, editing, layout,
design and advertising; showed many advertisers how to reach service
techs.
1977 to 1986
Leisure Time Chemical Corp.
Ontario, CAExecutive Vice President and Technical Director. Cofounder
and co-owner of a spa and pool specialty chemical manufacturer.
Formulated or developed 62 chemical products. purchased all raw
materials; purchased all tanks, reactors, filling, capping, blending,
packaging , and printing equipment; built an explosion-proof room
for filling chlorine products; was the production manager; set
up quality control procedures, responsible for all Regulatory Affairs;
gave over 400 seminars on water chemistry to service techs, retailers
and pool operators; owned a retail spa store, owned a portable
fiberglass spa manufacturing facility; setup a computerized batching
system for chemical production; built a new 40,000 square foot
plant facility specifying virtually everything from sloped floors
with underdrains to underfloor electrical. In 1986, we printed
and filled more than four million bottles of product. Company sold
to Laporte of London, England in January, 1985.
1973 to 1977
Robarb, Inc.
Decatur, GA
Vice President and General Manager. A pool specialty
chemical manufacturer. Formulated and developed two products; sold
products by day and manufactured products at night; developed a
small line of aquarium products.
